Why Buy Locally Owned?

Numerous well-documented studies support the many benefits to our communities and to each of us when we choose to shop local and at independently owned businesses. It is not always possible to purchase what we need locally so I merely ask you to consider "Local FIRST!"

My top reasons to Think Local - Buy Local - Be Local

Buy Local and Support yourself: Studies, many of them, support the fact that when you buy from a local independent owned business, rather than a nationally owned big chain, significantly more of your Dollars are spent to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms -- continuing to strengthen the local economic base of the local community.(Click here to read summaries of a many of economic impact studies; these studies are showing that locally-owned businesses generate an enormous economic impact to the community and to our tax base.)

Create more good local jobs: Small locally owned businesses are the largest employer in our communities, not the big business fat cats. Nationally and also in our community, they provide the most jobs to local residents.

Better service: Local businesses generally hire local people with better knowledge of the products they are selling, the community they live in and take more time to get to know customers if they don't know them already because they are their neighbors.

Buy LocalCommunity investment: Local businesses are owned by people who live in the community. Therefore they are less likely to leave, and are more interested in the community's future and you as customer.

Makes our community unique: Where we shop, eat and have fun - always makes our community home and unique. Our one-of-a-kind businesses and its owners are a fundamental part of the unique character of our community. Our local tourism businesses will also benefit from this uniqueness. .When people go on vacation they generally seek out destinations that offer them the sense of being someplace, not just anyplace.. ~ Richard Moe, President, National Historic Preservation Trust.

Let us put our taxes to good use: Local businesses in smaller town centers require comparatively little infrastructure investment and make more efficient use of public services as compared to nationally owned big store chains moving in to the community.

Promote local prosperity: Economic research defiantly supports that in an increasingly bland world, entrepreneurs as well as skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve their unique and one-of-a-kind businesses character.

Purchase what you want and not what someone else wants you to buy: An economy with thousands of small businesses is the best approach to guarantee innovation and low prices over the long-term. The multitude of small businesses selecting products based not on a national sales plan but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers. This guarantees a much broader range of product selection. Community group support: Studies show that non-profit organizations obtain an average of 250% more support from small business owners than they do from big businesses.

Help with environmental impact: Locally owned businesses make decisions locally, not at some corporate head quarters half way around the world, therefore they tend to make more local purchases. This leads to less transportation costs do to shorter distances. Usually small locally owned businesses set up shop in Town or Village centers as opposed to developing new stores way out of town. This means less to spread out, congestion, habitat loss and pollution not to speak of preserving the Town and Village centers.

Consider local first + Buy local when ever possible = Being a local!
